Former Vice President Mike Pence joined other world leaders at the international Rally of Hope in encouraging nations to build new friendships and break down historical barriers to unity as the world frees itself from the shackles of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Pence encouraged attendees to look ahead and begin building for a better tomorrow, as coronavirus cases reduce and vaccination levels increase.
He said: “Every day we are one day closer to putting the long night of the coronavirus behind us. Rays of sunlight have pierced the horizon and a bright new day is dawning,”
“Now, as nations undertake the urgent work of restoring lost jobs, reopening shuttered industries, we must remember that our task is not merely to rebuild the world of the past, but to forge a brighter future for all our citizens,” he told current and former heads of state and prominent political figures participating in the online rally.
The rally was attended by over 1 million participants from across the globe, each attending with a desire to unite in the fight against oppression, racial discrimination and poverty. The main theme of the rally was to rebuild a more loving world as we take steps towards a coronavirus-free world.
Saturday’s event, organised by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), was the fifth “Rally of Hope” since August, with the virtual gathering seeking to provide optimism and light over what has been a dark period amid the on-going coronavirus outbreak.
Alongside Mr. Pence, many other world leaders and distinguished officials spoke at the digital rally, including Guyanese Prime Minister Mark Phillips, former South African President F.W. de Klerk, Cape Verdean President Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, among others.
Our own True Mother, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, who is UPF’s co-founder, made her own remarks at the rally where she expressed the longstanding vision of a united Korea.
Dr. Moon said: “The people of Korea have been chosen by heaven. Nonetheless, the sad reality is the Korean Peninsula remains divided,
“And we dream of a heavenly unified Korea. That dream will come true. If the Korean Peninsula, if the people of Korea can become one people and if the Asia Pacific can be united into heavenly civilization, and connect the entire world, we can become a force for good that will expand to all of the continents and oceans of the world.”
In his address, former Vice President Pence emphasized the unwavering U.S. commitment has to its ally South Korea and stressed that Washington will stand hand in hand with its Pacific allies to face China’s rise as an economic and military power.
He said: “We will stand firm against our common adversaries, even as we work in good faith to turn our adversaries into friends. In so doing, I believe we can lay a foundation to bring about the peaceful unification of Korea within our lifetime,”
“That vision of freedom, peace, and prosperity is the same vision the people of the United States and the Republic of Korea have shared for nearly 70 years: A Korea united by the universal values of human dignity, liberty, and economic freedom.”
Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, founders of our movement, dedicated their lives towards to realisation of world peace and the reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
